Benefits of an Architectural (laminate) Log

Greater quality control and increased customer options are just a couple of the many benefits of the Kuhns Bros. laminate logs, and we are continuing to go strong with production of these durable building products.  But, what are the specific benefits of these logs over the traditional, solid log home?  Take a look:

  • Stronger - As an engineered product, it’s stronger and more stable than a solid log of the same species and dimensions.
  • More choices – Available in a variety of wood species options, and you can mix and match on the same log (example; cedar exterior, pine interior)
  • Wide Variety - Available in a many log sizes and profiles.
  • Same Finished Appearance – Accepts stain and preservative the same as the conventional logs and beams.
  • Lighter – Lower moisture content makes for lighter logs and easier to build with.
  • True Non-Settling System - The average moisture content of the logs will be 12% or less, resulting in a stable and predicatble log product.
  • Requires Less Maintenance - Since the moisture content of the logs is very low at the outset, subsequent checking and potential shrinkage is very minimal, reducing the maintenance required.
  • Virtually No Checking
  • Environmentally Friendly - The logs are produced using multiple layers of wood, improving the utilization of wood resources.
  • Reduces Waste in the Manufacturing Process - Due to the use of multiple layers, grading defects, such as slope of grain, size of knots, etc., can be controlled, improving overall material utilization and reducing waste.
  • Cost the Same or Less Than Most Solid Log Wall Systems
  • More Economical to Build Than Typical Insulated Log Wall Systems - The logs can be manufactured in thicknesses to meet energy requirements, pre-cut, and when constructed on site, are the complete wall system. This proves to be more economical than the multi-step process of constructing an insulated wall system.
  • Builder-Friendly - Since the logs are manufactured using controlled specifications, the log products is lighter and uniform, limiting the warping, twisting, bowing, etc., reducing the on-site labor time.

It’s best summed up by one of our experienced KBLH Sales Representatives . . .  “In the 19 years with Kuhns Bros and my 25 years in the log home building industry, I have provided my customers with what I believe is the best product on the market.  I recommend everyone look into the archtectural grade log and really see what benefits you will receive from this product.”  -- Greg Parks, Searsport, Maine.
